MONCURE, NC – July 19, 2017 – Arauco North America, one of the largest private employers in Chatham County, recently accepted several safety awards from the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) and the Composite Panel Association (CPA). The Moncure manufacturer produces engineered wood products medium density fiberboard (MDF) and particleboard.
CPA awarded the MDF operation the Safety Improvement Award. The operation had the greatest reduction in its recordable incident rate among Class II plants for the period from 2014 to 2016 versus 2011 to 2013. Class II plants operate at more than 286,000 worker-hours per year.
NCDOL recognized the MDF and particleboard operations with the 2016 North Carolina Department of Labor Safety Award for incident rates below 50% the industry standard in its categorical industry. Safety manager Mike Fiore and environmental coordinator Yvonne Couts accepted the award from North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry. The Moncure team was joined by representatives from an Arauco paper treating business operating from Biscoe, North Carolina. Biscoe plant manager Robert Akers and maintenance manager Raju Nandipati also received a NCDOL award.
