PITTSBORO, NC – August 22, 2017 – The Chatham County Board of Commissioners at its August 21 meeting voted to approve option agreements for the Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing Site and Moncure Megasite. Both megasites received a total of $8 million from Golden LEAF Foundation's Major Site Development Initiative (MSDI), under the condition that the properties be under public control with a fixed price for five years.
The MSDI grant money will be used to extend water to the Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing Site and sewer to the Moncure Megasite. The option agreements and expanded infrastructure make both shovel-ready megasites more competitive and attractive in a highly competitive market.
Kyle Touchstone, president of Chatham Economic Development Corporation, said several major prospects have shown interest in the sites in the past year.
"These sites are going into the second and third rounds of the site selection process," Touchstone said. "We want to do everything we can to put our sites ahead of the competition, because we know these are the best industrial megasites in the southeast."
Both sites are designated as major employment centers in the proposed Chatham County Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
