Recreation

Home of Jordan Lake State Recreation Area and the Haw, Deep and Rocky Rivers, Chatham County residents and visitors have access to an abundance of beautiful natural resources.

Jordan Lake is a popular destination for boating, swimming, fishing, camping, and hiking. The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation maintains nine recreation areas with more than 1,000 camping sites, public boat launches and swimming areas, and an Exhibit Hall and Visitors Center. The lake serves more than 1 million visitors per year.

Chatham County also has a growing network of pedestrian and bicyclist trail networks. A portion of the American Tobacco Trail connects Chatham County with trails in Durham and Wake Counties, creating a major recreational resource. Chatham County also has several public parks which provide athletic and picnic facilities for local use.

Chatham County has five highly acclaimed golf courses in proximity to North Carolina's nationally renowned courses at Pinehurst and Southern Pines. For golf enthusiasts, a number of specialty packages are available at the Fearrington House Country Inn, one of North Carolina's two AAA five-diamond rated hotels.
