Adequate public safety is essential to ensuring that Chatham County’s communities enjoy a high quality of life. The Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, Pittsboro Police Department, and Siler City Police Department are dedicated to providing professional law enforcement and community monitoring services to all of Chatham County’s residents. Chatham County Fire Prevention

Twelve fire stations serve Pittsboro, Siler City, Goldston, and Chatham County’s unincorporated municipalities. The Chatham County Fire Marshal, Pittsboro Fire Department, and Siler City Fire Department work with a combination of full-time and volunteer fire fighters to protect Chatham County residents and business owners from unnecessary personal and property loss. In addition, the Chatham County Fire Marshall provides fire prevention education, commercial and industrial fire inspections, enforcement of fire safety codes, special fire permits, and fire-related investigation services. Emergency Operations

Chatham County Emergency Operations plans and coordinates all emergency preparation, response, relief, and recovery efforts between citizens and government agencies. This department offers the following services:

  • Prepare for and manage response and recovery for various types of disasters and emergencies (ice storms, hurricanes, chemical spills, etc.)
  • Operate the 9-1-1 Communications Center;
  • Manage the CodeRED emergency alert system to notify residents of disasters or emergencies affecting their communities;
  • Manage 9-1-1 addressing and road naming
  • Provide road name signs for all state roads and private roads off of a state road
  • Manage emergency medical services, provided to the county through a contract agency.
