The meeting passed the four-hour mark, and the Chatham County Board of Commissioners had just listened to plans for yet another housing development. The scene is familiar across the Triangle’s small communities as they grapple with growth.

“This is the future, friends and neighbors,” said Commissioner Jim Crawford during an August meeting. “On the Eastern seaboard, we are the hot zone. This is what we’re in for. Especially you, my young friend,” he said as he pointed at fellow commissioner Franklin Gomez Flores. “This could be the rest of your life.”

Word is out about the Triangle’s appeal to companies and residents looking for a high quality of life with a low cost of living – and the area has been on fire for years.
