Even after landing a multibillion-dollar economic development project, there is still plenty of room at a Chatham County megasite available for another tenant.

Michael Smith, president of the Chatham Economic Development Corporation, said there are roughly 1,400 acres still available at the Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing megasite. That’s after Wolfspeed (NYSE: WOLF) recently purchased 445 acres at CAM for its new $5 billion semiconductor plant that will employ 1,800 people.

“I understand it’s counterintuitive because when you get a $5 billion project, one would likely assume that your site is filled up,” Smith said. “But we were able to add several hundred acres at the front, so therefore we’re got roughly 1,400 acres left.”
