Chatham County businesses Brookwood Farms and Capital Ready Mix Concrete are winners of the Triangle Business Journal’s 2019 Family Business Awards. For the awards, the Triangle Business Journal considers businesses that are multigenerational, family-owned, as well as closely-held businesses in the Triangle for overall excellence, innovation, ethics, philanthropy and contribution to the strength of the region.

Brookwood Farms FamilyBased in Siler City, Brookwood Farms produces a range of barbecue products that are sold nationwide. Founded in 1978 by Jerry Wood, the company is now lead by the third generation of the Wood family, Twig Wood and Craig Wood. The fourth generation of the Wood family, comprised of Twig and Craig’s children, currently work in sales and quality control for the company.

Capital Ready Mix Concrete FamilyCapital Ready Mix Concrete is headquartered in Pittsboro, where they renovated the former Townsends chicken processing plant to expand their operations from their former location in Knightdale. It was founded in 2009 by James Lochren, and his daughter Sarah Lochren is the vice president of the company. Capital Ready Mix Concrete serves the areas of Wake, Johnston, Franklin, Durham and Chatham counties from their 2-acre site.

The awards will be presented at the Triangle Business Journal’s 2019 Family Business Awards event on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at the Prestonwood County Club from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
